Quantum of the Seas Cruise to Nowhere Day 3: Solarium Bistro, Pop Up Card, Ripcord by iFLY, Gold Art Duo and Accolade Duo!

Ripcord by iFLY Quantum of the Seas Royal Caribbean Cruise

On day 3 of our 5D4N cruise to nowhere onboard of the Quantum of the Seas, we started the day with our daily routine of freshly squeezed orange and latte

As we ordered the largest sized cup, we went with a triple shot latte (instead of the usual double shot) as recommended by our barista. This is so that you’d still taste the espresso and not let the taste be drowned out by the milk in the cuppa. While we were sipping our juices at La Pattiserie, we hopped over to Guest Services (just across the Royal Promenade) to take a shot of the Compass Cruise for the day…

We managed to catch the beautiful sunrise this morning, before adjourning to our balcony state room to chill and listen to the waves before breakfast…

For breakfast this morning, we decided to try out a new venue – The Solarium Bistro

From the information we’ve received, the Solarium Bistro is meant to serve healthy breakfast choices. However, we found that the choices were rather limited. We did not even find cereals here…🤔

Upon entry into the Solarium Bistro, you’d join a queue on the right and as with meals at Windjammer, the staff will place your selected choices on the plate and hand it over to you. This time, we had loads of fresh fruits and we also ordered more fresh juices through our waiter. To be honest, we did not really enjoy our breakfast here. This is because, the Solarium Bistro is really small and the food choices is rather limited. Not only did we not manage to get cereals, the fresh juices had to be delivered from Windjammer (at the other end of the ship), which took a while to reach our table. Hence, after a quick bite, we left and headed to our first activity of the day – pop up card folding class!

Quantum of the Seas Cruise to Nowhere Activity – Pop Up Card Folding Class

As with the napkin folding class, the Pop Up Card folding class is also located at the Music Hall (deck 3). This class requires quite alot of cutting, so be prepared to exercise those nifty fingers of yours!

After receiving your material, you’ll have to start cutting. Cut along the lines (not the dotted lines) to obtain square pieces of cards and cut out all the flowers as well. You should obtain these after about 15 minutes of cutting…

After all the cutting is completed (phew!), it’s time to assemble. Using the stick glue provided, choose where you want your flowers to be placed. Remember to vary the height so that you’ll get that “3D effect”. Your final product should look something like this…

Overall, the class was pretty enjoyable. Therapeutic as well due to the focus on cutting the outlines of the flowers. Also, we went away with a little souvenir as well.

After grabbing our favourite caramel macchiato from La Pattiserie, we headed to our favourite specialty restaurant for lunch – Jamie’s Italian Restaurant by Jamie Oliver!

Quantum of the Seas Cruise to Nowhere Specialty Dining – Lunch at Jamie’s Italian

As we’re rather familiar with Jamie’s Italian menu by now, we dived straight in for our orders

Starters: Black Truffle Arancini, Ultimate Garlic Bread
Pasta: Our Famous Prawn Linguine, Tagliatelle Bolognese
Salad: Super Food Salad
Mains: JI Burger
Dessert: Sorbet

For starters, we enjoyed the Black Truffle Arancini. An unique dish that packs in something like a paella, molded into a ball, deep fried and served with fragrance of the black truffle. Enjoyed it. We will also order the Ultimate Garlic Bread every time we visit. Superb. As for the salads, although the Super Food Salad, came as advertised – avocado, pomegranate, broccoli and more, we realised that the conventional “green” salad was more suited for us. For pasta, the prawn linguine was really tasty and the prawn was firm on the bite. However, we did not enjoy the tagliatelle bolognese. This combination was a little bland to taste. Rather, we’d recommend the lasagne for the meaty ragu and excellent pasta layers or the truffle tagliatelle for the rich tastes of truffle goodness!

For the mains, we really enjoyed the JI Burger. The bread was toasty and slightly sweetened while the meat patty was sooooo juicy! It was so good that on the last day, we ordered a double patty of the JI Burger (yes, you can do that at Jamie’s Italian)!

Noticed, that we did not order “too much” because we had a “flight” to catch this afternoon – Ripcord by iFLY!

Quantum of the Seas Cruise to Nowhere Activities – Ripcord by iFLY Review

We booked our session for Ripcord by iFLY at 2:30pm, which gave us some time to digest our lunch from Jamie’s. Do note that iFLY is a paid activity and we purchased it online using the cruise planner prior to the trip. It cost us $54.40 per person which is slightly cheaper than what you’d be paying at Sentosa (about $80). So if you have been thinking of trying out iFLY, this would be a great opportunity.

As we arrived at 2:15pm, we did our registration, got our wristbands and headed out to wait for allotted time. No crowding inside the iFLY waiting area, especially not during COVID times. Hence, we went outdoors to watch some climbers scale the rock wall next door.

At 2:30pm, we headed back and we were given the jump suits (according to our size), given our helmets and goggles before the safety brief was conducted. Our instructor told us that to do flight well, we had to observe these instructions inside the tunnel

1. Chin Up
2. Fingers spread out (like a duck’s web), elbow angled with hands at the eye level
3. Legs slightly apart with toes pointed

If we’re able to maintain these position, the instructor would make tiny amendments to your posture inside the tunnel so that you’ll be able to enjoy a few seconds of flight time. The whole duration inside the wind tunnel is about 1 minute. Not too long, but sufficient for you to get a feel of the flight experience…

We felt really safe throughout the entire experience. As you can see, the instructor is just next to you to ensure that you don’t fly to far up the tunnel or float too far away from him. During our flight, we managed to experience a couple of seconds of flight, which was quite an achievement for first timers! The rest of the time, we were held by the instructor either at the body or leg. 😅 After each class, the instructor will do a round of “demonstration” where they’ll spin, turn and fly up and down the tunnel! Impressive!

FlowRider (Complimentary Activity) Quantum of the Seas Cruise to Nowhere
FlowRider (Complimentary Activity) Quantum of the Seas Cruise to Nowhere

After our flight, we were able to check out fellow cruisers enjoying FlowRider. For FlowRider, you’d have to do a quick registration at the office next to iFLY and fill out an indemnity form. Thereafter, simply queue up for your turn. For the boogie board, the instructors would be on scene to instruct you how to flip from your tummy to your knees and how to shift your body weight to move from left to right. If you’ve tried this activity, let us know in the comments section below!

Quantum of the Seas Cruise to Nowhere Activities – Gold Art Duo

For our afternoon matinee, we checked out the Gold Art Duo headliner show. Due to the pandemic, shows are spread throughout the day. Essentially, 3 sessions

4:15 and 5pm
7:45 and 8pm
10 and 10:15pm

Due to our “double dinners” at specialty dining restaurants each evening, we chose the 10:15pm show on day 1. The 4:15 and 10:15pm show on day 2 and the 4:15pm show on day 3. This gave us free time on day 4 to chillax before returning home the next day.

The Gold Art Duo is essentially an acrobatic performance. The performers actually gained fame from Ukraine’s Got Talent as well as America’s Got Talent. We thoroughly enjoyed the show as it included elements of humour and interaction with the audience. Due to copyright issues, no filming or photography is allowed. Hence, we can only tell you that it’s our 2nd favourite show of the headliners (behind Sequins and Feathers) and is definitely a show not to be missed! Head over early to get great seats right in the middle of the Royal Theatre. Doors open 30 minutes before performances.

After the amazing performance, we grabbed a drink Harp and Horn before our first dinner at Chops Grille

Harp and Horn is essentially a pub right in the middle of the Royal Promenade on deck 4. With our refreshment package, we were able to enjoy mocktails, soft drinks and water while seated at one of the comfortable leather sofas within. This time, we had the No-jito and sparking San Pellegrino. Soon, it was time for Chops Grille!

Quantum of the Seas Cruise to Nowhere Specialty Dining – Chops Grille Review

All Specialty Dining restaurants are located on deck 5 of Quantum of the Seas. Chops Grille is located at the forward part of the ship, next to Schooner Bar (a piano bar). As we’ve been here before, we took a quick look at the menu and ordered the following:

The beef carpaccio was a little disappointing. The meat flaked into many pieces, unlike how a good beef carpaccio should be. On the other hand, the Colossal Shrimp Cocktail (though not that colossal in size), was firm to the bite. Of course, our favourite was the Wild Mushroom Soup, a meal at Chops Grille can’t go without this amazing soup. Chock full of mushroomy flavours, topped with white truffle oil. Yum!

The highlight again was the 16z oz Prime Bone-In Ribeye. We ordered the monstrous piece at medium and it turned out nicely seared to seal in the juices on the inside. Perfectly done. When we see the steak served at the MDR or even Genting, we know that there’s a real difference in quality. Once you’ve gone with Specialty Dining esp at Chops Grille and Jamie’s, you’d probably be spoilt and want to do likewise for subsequent cruises!

After our first dinner at Chops Grille, we checked out the Accolade Duo, violin and classical guitar performance…

Ukrainian violinist Victoria Stryzhak previously headlined shows for Quantum of the Seas’s cruise to nowhere. Although she did not headline during this cruise, we were able to hear superb violin performances at Boleros. You’d be able to enjoy classical favourites such as that from Vivaldi as well as pop songs and folk tunes, all performed at very high concert performance standards!

Quantum of the Seas Cruise to Nowhere Specialty Dining – Izumi Specialty Restaurant Review

As we’ve tried several great tasting sushi rolls yesterday at Izumi, we decided to go with the assorted sashimi and poke bowl. To round off our second dinner (a superb deal with the Unlimited Dining Package), we had the assorted mochi ice cream

Ice Cream Mochi at Izumi Japanese Restaurant Quantum of the Seas Review

As several bloggers had mentioned before, the sashimi was not the best. Especially, the tuna. It was not the usually firm texture but very slight “broken” textures within. The rest of the sashimi was still ok. Nothing a little soy sauce and wasabi cant help. The Poke Bowl on the other hand, was really tasty. The fragrance of the sesame oil and yuzu, elevated the taste of the fish. Hence, for meals at Izumi, we’d highly recommend the sushi rolls as well as the poke bowl. Anyone tasted the tonkotsu ramen? Let us know in the comments section below!

The ice cream mochi was good! We loved the green tea mochi. If you can, order all 3 mochis as green tea or simply order the green tea ice cream. You won’t be disappointed!
