Phe La Ba Dinh Hanoi Review: A Popular Cafe to Chill and Hang Out

Street facing window seats at Phe La Cafe Hanoi Ba Dinh

While grabbing back to our Airbnb at Pham Hong Thai, we chanced upon a particular Phe La Cafe that seems to be rather popular with the locals. This particular Phe La is located at (2 P. Núi Trúc, Kim Mã, Ba Đình, Hà Nội, Vietnam) and based on the Phe Las that we have seen so far (there are many Phe La Cafes in Hanoi), this outlet is designed with an open concept for patrons to have a street view while enjoying a cup of coffee or tea.

How To Order Your Drinks at Phe La Cafe Hanoi

After arriving at Phe La Cafe Ba Dinh, we realised that there were simply too many people. In fact, just before we left, another couple had already been eyeing our seats – that’s how popular the Phe La at Ba Dinh is. So, we decided that one of us will chope the seats while the other heads over to order. This was how we managed to get a good seat that overlooks the street while we’re there. Now, to the important part about ordering your drinks at Phe La Cafe

First, you have to know that Phe La is primarily a tea cafe, specialising in teas from Dalat. According to their website, they offer teas according to the way that they are brewed, namely Syphon, French Press, Moka Pot and Nitro Cold Brew…

There’s also a drip coffee named V60 due to the V-shaped filter that it uses during the brewing process…

The drinks are listed according to the brewing process. However, as the menu on-site was all in Vietnamese, we decided to point to one of the leaflets instead. Not sure what we pointed to but eventually we were served the Tropical Oolong Nitro Cold Brew (55K)

What We Had at Phe La Cafe Hanoi

As the name suggests, the Tropical Oolong Nitro Cold Brew was very refreshing. We could taste the fragrance of the tea filled with the sweetness of the fruits. Within, we could find a slice of orange, watermelon and passion fruit – all of which we obliterated together with the oolong tea. Definitely a drink that’s perfect for a hot summer’s day and to chill with friends at Phe La.

Inside Phe La Cafe Ba Dinh, trendy music was played and there were both indoors and outdoor seatings. Indoors, we sat by the window so that we could watch the traffic as they went by. There were also shorter seats, iconic to Vietnam, within the indoor area. Right outside our window, there were also seats with cushions. A couple came to sit in front of us due to the crowd at the cafe. So, it was a little bit awkward – though their backs were facing us. This was also the couple we handed our seats to when we left. Outside, there’s a little garden patio of sorts with more Vietnamese-styled low seats and these were all full during our visit as well. Since it was a nice 15 degrees out, youngsters were chatting and enjoying each other’s company at the outdoor seats.
