Krisflyer x Dream Cruise: What to expect on a SIA-Themed Cruise to Nowhere on World Dream from 17 to 19 November 2021!

Lalique Amenties for SQ First Class Suites

Krisflyer has teamed up with Dream Cruise to offer an exclusive chartered cruise for Krisflyer members from 17 to 19 November 2021! The two night cruise is touted as an “SIA-Themed” cruise that will include some of the signature experiences that SQ has to offer for its first class and business class passengers. But how exclusive is it, really?

A quick search on Dream Cruise’s website shows that this particular World Dream cruise chartered by SQ, is not available for public booking! This means that the cruise is (currently) only available for booking by Krisflyer members! But this kept us thinking, how would Krisflyer be able to fill the cruise, solely via Krisflyer members? Perhaps it has something to do with the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) that allows travel to and from Singapore without the need to quarantine. European Krisflyer members could possibly be on this cruise as well!

Redemption for the Krisflyer Dream Cruise can only be done via the Krisflyer Experiences website. The number of miles required for redemption are as follows:

Palace Suites: 240,000 miles (for 4 passengers)
Balcony Staterooms: 50,000 miles (for 2 passengers)

Unfortunately, at time of writing, Palace Suites have already been fully redeemed.

What to expect on Krisflyer chartered Dream Cruise from 17 to 19 November 2021

During this exclusive World Dream cruise chartered by Singapore Airlines, passengers can expect to receive welcome packs such as SQ’s First Class and Business Class amenity kits and sleeper suits, as well as other SIA and KrisFlyer commemorative items. In addition, Krisflyer members will also enjoy complimentary WiFi throughout the cruise and SIA’s signature satay upon boarding. This reminded us of our flights aboard Singapore Airlines First Class Suites as well as the first class Lalique amenities that we received aboard! Also, just for Palace Suite (aka First Class) passengers, you’ll be treated to first class in-flight meal by Georges Blanc (three Michelin-starred chef-owner and Grand Master of French cuisine) on the first night!

If we were to hazard a guess, business class amenities could be provided to Krisflyer members in the Balcony Stateroom for this departure. However, the price (or in this case Krisflyer miles) disparity between Palace Suites and Balcony is rather apparent. We won’t be surprise if Balcony Staterooms don’t receive the business class amenities and have other memorabilia instead.

Nonetheless, all members will enjoy the signature SQ satay upon boarding! 😋

Besides the usual shows and activities aboard Genting Dream Cruises (thinking water slide and rope obstacle courses), there are also exclusive grooming workshops by SIA cabin crew members as well as a Batik rose-making class. Do note that charges may apply for some of these workshops.

Also, this cruise will be the first to feature Dream Cruises’ Nordic Christmas-themed festivities which will include a Nordic Village, Santa Express and Christmas Market! 😁

Is the Exclusive Krisflyer Dream Cruise Worth It?

Well, the question depends on the perspective that you’re viewing this redemption.

Perspective #1: Redemption of 240,000 miles for Palace Suites

At 240,000 miles, it seems to be rather steep. However, remember that it is meant to be priced for 4 passengers. This means that at ~$1000 per person for a Palace Suite passenger, it really translates to 60,000 miles. Which is still a relatively poor redemption rate compared to the ~$5,350 first class ticket at 65,000 miles when redeemed our pre-COVID first class flight from Singapore to Japan.

Perspective #2: Redemption of 50,000 miles for Balcony Stateroom

On the other hand, the Balcony Stateroom is priced at ~$900 for 50,000 miles. The redemption rate seems to be slightly better than the Palace Suites. Of course, you won’t get the first class amenities, Micheline-starred dinner and the exclusive Palace Suites privileges (cocktail hours, personal butler and VIP seatings). Hence, by comparing the redemption rate and the offerings, Balcony Staterooms are a no no as well.

Perspective #3: Novelty of a (perhaps the only) SQ-Themed Cruise To Nowhere

However, if you view it from the exclusivity of the SIA-Themed Cruise, which by the way, could be the only such cruise in a very long time (since air travel is opening up soon), from the “once-in-a-lifetime” perspective, it could make the redemption worthwhile. Although Palace Suites have been fully redeemed, from this perspective, it does make sense to snag a Balcony Stateroom redemption and enjoy some of the exclusive SIA experiences onboard a cruise!
