Wu Pao Chun Bakery is an award-winning Taiwanese bakery famed for its Lychee Rose Royale and Red Wine Longan breads. Each time we pass by Capitol Singapore, we’d try to see if we were in time for the freshly baked batch of these famed Lychee or Longan breads. For the first 2 times, they were sold out. This time, we were third time lucky and we went ahead to buy both to try them out!

Once inside, we usually head towards the counter that displays the Lychee Rose Royale and Red Wine Longan breads. This time, we were pleasantly surprised that they were available!

However, it was also this time that we realised that the breads are really really really expensive! 😲 Each loaf of either Lychee Rose or Red Wine Longan costs $21.8. Half a loaf costs $14.8. This time, we bought a loaf of the Red Wine Longan and another half loaf for $10 due to an on-going promotion.

There is also a little cafe inside Wu Pao Chun bakery Singapore. There, you can get a cuppa and grab a bun to have some afternoon tea here. There are also box set gifts available from Wu Pao Chun bakery.

Verdict of Lychee Rose Royale vs Red Wine Longan from Wu Pao Chun Singapore

First of all, after purchasing the loaf of Red Wine Longan and Lychee Rose Royale, we understood why it is so pricey. The loaf of bread is SO heavy! Going by breads of similar artisanal flavours, it does weigh almost 3 times the usual weight. Hence, 3 times the price is, well, equitable.

As for the taste test, both breads had great, firm and chewy texture. First, we had the Red Wine Longan. There were loads of the red wine infused Longan and walnut. Healthy-tasting and chock full of ingredients. A great tasting loaf of bread. However, when we tried out the Lychee Rose Royale, we were blown away by the blend of lychee wine, lychee and rose petal. Reminded us of our visit to Innisfree Jeju house where we had some great tasting desserts.

For us, Lychee Rose Royale is definitely the clear winner. As with most Singaporeans, Lychee Rose Royale has fared better than Red Wine Longan as well. However, if you’re looking for an artisanal old school taste, Red Wine Longan offers just that. For a more modern take, Lychee Rose Royale takes the cake.
