GIOI Ocean Gourmet at Discovery Shopping Mall was where we headed to for dinner after checking out the offerings our hotel stay at Mercure Kuta Bali. The walk from Mercure Kuta Bali to Discovery Shopping Mall was about 15 minutes along the road, one street away from the beach. Originally, we wanted to dine at Vilo which had outside seats but had a minimum spending of 250K. Kate thought it would be difficult to spend 250K (or $25 SGD) on ice cream. Hence, we popped over next door to GIOI Ocean Gourmet where we were glad that we did so…

What We Had at GIOI Ocean Gourmet Bali
GIOI Ocean Gourmet had its roots in Jakarta before coming to Bali where their food focuses on Bali’s coastal bounty as well as the environment by the sea. This allows the “ocean breeze and culinary symphony” to be transported to a “realm where every bite is a celebration of Jakarta’s culinary finesse and Bali’s coastal charm” (words in apostrophes extracted from GIOI Ocean Gourmet Menu). As we were slightly early, just before 6pm this evening, we were ushered to one of the daybed seats with unblocked views of the ocean and sunset – definitely a score for Tom who can’t remember when was the last time they had dined at a restaurant with such a cool vibe and comfortable daybed seats

After browsing through the menu, we decided to start with the Gossip Girls cocktail deal which featured 3 cocktails for the price of 150K++ (~$15 SGD) which included the Floral Blossom (Gin-based), Tequila Sunrise and Cosmopolitan (Vodka-based)…

The Gossip Girl sunset cocktail deal was 150k++ which worked out to less than half price per drink we were to order cocktails at the usual price. Our favourite was actually the Floral Blossom cocktail, a gin-based floral concoction which had fragrance of floral notes and gin on each sip. Definitely a great start to the evening at GIOI Ocean Gourmet!
For the mains, we ordered the GIOI Signature Crispy Duck (half – 190k IDR). Since the crispy duck (Bebek Goreng) is a must-try dish when you come to Bali, ordering this dish allowed us to savour a local delicacy by the beach…

To enjoy this dish, we also ordered a Bintang draught (40k IDR)
The GIOI Signature Crispy Duck was what was touted to be. The duck was indeed very crispy and the meat within was tender, albeit a tad on the dry the side. We also loved the signature GIOI rice that came with it – a fragrant fried rice that also had the aroma of lemongrass, onion and garlic. There were 3 sauces that came together with the rice, one of which had a semblance to Chinchalok in look, was our favourite – because it was oily yet fragrant!
Dinner at GIOI Ocean Gourmet Bali – Sunset
The highlight of dining at GIOI Ocean Gourmet Bali was definitely the views during sunset…

During sunset, there will be throngs of crowds gathering by the beach and rocks in front of GIOI Ocean Gourmet Bali. As the restaurant is elevated, you’ll be able to get unblocked sunset views while sipping on cocktails and dining on some amazing gourmet food from GIOI Ocean Gourmet. Even after sunset, fairy lights within the restaurant would light up and this brings about a modern yet cool vibe as you wind down the evening here.

Moreover, the Gossip Girl cocktail deal along with the GIOI Signature Crispy Duck were affordable and delicious. Lastly, the cool, modern vibes of the interior decor of GIOI Ocean Gourmet does elevate the overall dining experience.
