Little Island Brewing Company: Chilling by the Idyllic Changi Village

Live Music at Little Island Brewing Company Changi Village

Little Island Brewing Company was one of the first microbrewery in Singapore to resume live music post-COVID! Having tried the Whiter Shade of Pale (Pale Ale) from Little Island Brewing Co. (and really quite enjoyed it), we wanted to head back and try out the other beers while listening to some live band music – something that we’ve not been able to enjoy due to the COVID restrictions. Read on to find out what we had at Little Island Brewery this time!

Ambience of Little Island Brewing Company

As Little Island Brewing Co. is located near to Changi Beach, we decided to stop by and take a short walk over from there…

It was actually quite nice to see people gathering at Changi Beach once again. The bicycle shop was bustling, along with many cyclists on the tracks. There were joggers and strollers like ourselves, enjoying the sea breeze by the beach. Most importantly, the familiar smells of charcoal burning from BBQ pits have returned! There were several tents pitched, signalling the return of weekend gatherings by the beach as well. Really nice to see this return to normalcy once again 😀

Strolling past the bridge at Changi Point waterfront park, we finally arrived at our destination for the evening – Little Island Brewing Company…

At about 6pm, the al fresco seats (with excellent views of the live band) were already taken up. Hence, we had to settle for seats within the restaurant. Nonetheless, we were still able to groove to the music (albeit in our seats) when the live music finally came on in the evening…

We’ve got to say that the feeling was somehow both “free-ing” (due to the absence of live music after 2 years) and yet nostalgic. Familiar tunes were played while revelers enjoyed their meals along with the beautifully crafted beers at Little Island Brewing Company.

Soon, the buzzer notified us that it was time to collect our food from the food collection station. The Kitchen is located at the other end of the restaurant. As you’re collecting the food yourself, instead of paying the 10% service charge, you’ll only be charged 5% for “clearing fee”. A great way to transfer some savings to the customers…😉

The Crispy Pork Belly, while not the best that we’ve had, was rather decent. The test of a pork belly lies upon the three factors. Firstly, crispiness and unique marinate of the skin. Secondly, the proportion of fats to meat of the cut and thirdly, the overall taste and texture on the bite. The crispy pork belly from Little Island Brewing Co. checked most of the boxes but missed out in two minor criterias. There wasn’t a unique taste to the skin – just plain crisp. Then, the cut was a little too thin which made it a little less chunky than it ought to be on the bite. Nonetheless, at $19, it was decently priced for an entree. Still, we prefer the version at Arteastiq Plaza Singapura.

The Wagyu Beef Brisket on the other hand was good. As a smokehouse, it infused a nice smokiness to the meat and managed to get a rather tender slice of brisket without compromising on the juiciness. In other words, it was not dry like many other versions we’ve had. A good proportion of fats came with the cut which we liked and the sides of fries was quite generous as well. Lastly, the brown sauce complemented the wagyu beef brisket perfectly.

To end off the meal, we had another pint of East Coast IPA ($14)

All in all, it was rather nice to enjoy a pint and take in the popular tunes from the live band at the end of the meal. The food was good and the ambience was lively (anything with fairy lights always makes it better). We’d certainly return again to relish the Whiter Shade of Pale!
