Seoul Yummy was started in 2008 and refreshed in 2017 with the aim to serve traditional Korean cuisine with a modern twist. The team thus aims to recreate what modern Koreans are enjoying today in Seoul while remaining true to the soulful goodness of Korean cuisine.

After browsing through Seoul Yummy’s menu, we eventually zoomed in on the Bundle Deals for 2. This signature combo priced at $51.80++ includes

Signature Stew (Choose 1 from the following)
– Daebak Army Stew
– Spicy Seafood Army Stew
– Cheesy Odeng Army Stew
– Ja Jang Pork Army Stew

Appetiser (Choose 1 from the following)
– Yummy Chikin (Soy Garlic)
– Fried Pork Dumplings
– Fried Kimchi Dumplings
– BBQ Pork Belly
– Ban Ban Pancake (Kimchi & Potato)
– Cheesy Potato Pancake

2 Seoul Yummy Ice Lemon Tea
(Upgrade to Mixed Fruit Tea at $1.90 each)

This time, we chose the Cheesy Odeng Army Stew. Odeng is actually Korean fish cake served on skewers – mimicking those sould at Seoul’s street snack stalls. Topped with assorted odengs and generous amounts of shredded cheese. “Odeng” is actually derived from Japanese “Oden”. Hence, this stew is perfect for Oden lovers – dipped in an appetizing Korean stew. Choose from Spicy/Non-Spicy versions.

As for the appetisers, we originally wanted to go with Ban Ban pancake to have the best of both worlds – half potato and half kimchi pancake. However, it was not available this time and we went with the Yummy Chikin (Soy Garlic) instead.

Lastly, for the drinks, we had the Ice Lemon Tea (with the upgrade) and were pleasantly surprised with the jelly within. Can be treated as a dessert towards the end of the meal.

The cool thing about dining at Seoul Yummy is that you’ll also be served Korean side dishes. These include kimchi, pickled cucumbers, beansprouts, corn and radishes. Although not as good as our favourite side dish at Big Mama Korean Restaurant – free flow side dishes are always an attractive offer.

What we had at Seoul Yummy

Seoul Yummy - Yummy Chikin (Soy Garlic)

Firstly, when the Seoul Yummy Cheesy Odeng Army Stew arrived at our table, we found it to be a little intimidating. The proportion was rather generous. It could well be a bundle deal for 3 or 4 (for smaller eaters). Taste wise, we had nothing to complain about. After having some pretty good stews in Korea, we could taste the rich stew, infused with tastes of the ingredients. Notably, there was also Tteokbokki (rice cakes) in the stew and it was one of the better ones we’ve had – not too chewy and not too gooey, just nice. Remember to do the “sauce lick” (using tteokbokki to lap within the sauce) before every mouth!

As for the Odeng, it had a nice bouncy texture and you could taste the slightly sweetened fish cake within. Although it may seemed that pork army stew would have been the more “value-for-money” option, we still think that the Odeng Army Stew gave a nice authentic Korean dining experience. Oh, the cheese in the stew had game. #stretchycheese

Lastly, the Yummy Chikin (Soy Garlic) was excellent. The outer batter was crisp – not the overly crispy type but nicely crisp, even after being drenched with the soy garlic sauce. The soy garlic sauce was also enticing in that its not that salty and you could taste the fragrance of the garlic on each bite. Overall, an excellent appetiser!

Although we did mention that the bundle deal for 2 was still slightly pricey – coming in at a total of $61 (inclusive of taxes), we thought it was well worth it. You’d be paying for the quality of the stew, generous portion of ingredients, authentic street snack experience in the Yummy Chikin and Korean side dishes. Would totally return to try out the other Army Stews. If you have tried out the Signature Army Stews at Seoul Yummy, let us know which is your favourite in the comments section below!
