Have you ever thought about making a day trip from Singapore to Johor but can’t stand the thought of being held at the customs for more 2 hours? No worries! We @ 2bearbear, have finally figured out the “Golden Period” for Singaporeans to make a day trip from Singapore to Johor in less than 5 hours!

When to make a day trip from Singapore to Johor?

Logically, if you were to take a weekend trip to Johor, you’d likely depart Singapore on a Friday or a Saturday right? That makes jams at the Causeway very likely on Friday and Saturday mornings. Hence, the most logical entry day for a day trip from Singapore to Johor, would be…

*drum rolls*

SUNDAY!

But you may ask. Even if I enter in the morning, I would still have to have to contend with mini jams at the Causeway and the long wait to find a parking spot at City Square or Komtar JBCC! How can you go and return within 5 hours?

How to make a day trip from Singapore to Johor?

Which is why, in order for this day trip from Singapore to Johor in the shortest possible time, you will have to adhere to these 2 very important points

1. Travel between Sunday morning (anytime) till 2pm. This “Golden Period” for day trip from Singapore to Johor allows you to do your grocery shopping, maybe even catch an early movie screening and have lunch before returning to Singapore. If you really want to push it, we recommend nothing later than 3pm. That’s when the jams start and it would no longer make sense to make a day trip anymore. Jams can go past 10pm on Sunday nights!

2. Travel by Public Transport. The cool thing about public transport is that frequency is really high and you’ll alight direct at the CIQ in Malaysia. From there, it’s just a 5 minutes walk (or less if you do brisk walk) to City Square or Komtar JBCC.

If you’re taking bus 950 from Woodlands Interchange (or preferred mode of transport),

After Singapore Customs (no matter whether you’re coming in to Singapore or leaving Singapore), always take a right turn after you come down from the escalator. The bus 950 queue is always at the first pillar on the left.

After you leave the Malaysia Customs, instead of taking the escalator down on the left, KEEP RIGHT. From there, head to berth 20. That’s where bus 950 is located.

In short, always keep right to find bus 950.

Using the combination of the methods above, we were able to make a day trip from Singapore Johor from 10am to 2pm. Before 3pm, we were back in the comforts of our home, without contending with the jams at Causeway!

Oleg by gCafe has 2 specialties. The charcoal burger as well as the waffle burgers. This time, we tried both. For 17.90RM (~ $6SGD), we had the O Club Waffle Burger, fries as well as a drink. We got the ala carte charcoal burger for 11.90RM (~ $4SGD) as well as the brownie (5.90RM ~ $2SGD) and scone (3.5RM ~ $1SGD). Taste and portion wise, the waffle burger was definitely better than the charcoal burger. The brownie was probably the best value for money. Perhaps you can drop by for a brownie for desserts after your meal at Dragon-i?

While walking around JB City Square, we saw many people holding bags with the “Original Cake” (古早味) logo. Since it is relatively expensive to try it out in Singapore, we decided to check it out ($9.9 for the original and $11.9 for the cheese version). 源味本铺 Original Cake is located at level 3, within Inner City of JB City Square. The cakes are about 50% cheaper than that in Singapore. The original cake costs 15RM (~ $5SGD) and the cheese version costs 20 RM (~ $6.7SGD).
